Recommended Progression

Not sure where to begin?

There is no single correct route, but this progression gives new students enough structure to avoid jumping into an environment that assumes too much prior knowledge.

STEP 01

Build your foundation

Complete Owl Sector beginner and intermediate missions to practice vocabulary, clues, flags, web inspection, ciphers, and safe investigation.

STEP 02

Practice independently

Move into picoCTF, CTFlearn, or guided TryHackMe rooms. Learn how larger platforms organize challenges and track progress.

STEP 03

Join a team or season

Enter CyberPatriot or the National Cyber League with a coach, club, school, or college program. Use Hack The Box as skills become more advanced.

Teacher and parent note: External platforms have their own accounts, age requirements, pricing, privacy policies, community features, and acceptable-use rules. Review each provider before assigning it to students.
